Yep .. Everytime.. I have even waited for slower elderly women and they just beam at you when they Thank you .. I think it is just common courtesy to open doors for otehrs ..Or hold their groceries while they find their keys etc.... I wish more of our youth would do it, but they think its corny cause their friends dont do it.. Stupid kids.. LOL
I am going to throw my two-cents in this pool! I am a very independant female but I don't get annoyed if my husband or other men open a door for me. I think it is nice and shows a sign that there is still some traditional things alive in this screw up society. I fully agree with children of both genders being taught the importance of respecting people as they grow up so to all the parents who posted about teaching their childern to hold open a door a big
to you.
Now here is my complaint. I find it very annoying when my husband opens a door for me and rude women will almost knock me down because they think he opened the door for them. I had what I call a " Diva Bimbo" make a comment about me walking through the door when she was coming out the door at a store. She was opening the other door exiting the store as we approached and my husband opened the door for me so she tries to push by me because my husband had opened the door instead of going out the door she was opening for herself. My husband nicely informed the moron that he had opened the door for his wife but he would hold the door for her since she was too weak to open the door for herself. I about laughed in the woman's face. It just bothers me that my husband will open the door for me but other women will be rude to me and almost run me over when he is holding the door for me.
In addition, my husband doesn't always open the door of the automoble for me but when I ride in the semi-truck with him for the day he will open the door for me and help me get up in the truck and I think it is sweet because he is concern about me getting hurt or burning myself on the pipes.
Yes, I open doors for my wife or anyone else if the chance happens.
Back in the day, we had two-door cars. Very heavy doors.
A part of the reason I still do it is to take a second and glance around.
Check my tires, scan the area. Same with entering a building...always
take that moment to glance around. Everything looks right? Nobody out
of place?
Yes, I hold doors open for women-my wife especially. As a matter of fact, I hold the door open for other people male or female. It's all part of trying to keep things in the proper order for me. God first, others second, and myself a distant third. (I don't always accomplish this.) It's not a regional thing. Happens here in the North too. Polite people are just that-polite. I do not have a problem with others holding the door open for me if they have gotten there first. Sadly enough, I do not see as many younger guys doing the same. As a funny side note. One evening while entering a restaurant I held the door open for another couple (not with us) and my wife. We were seated at adjacent tables and as I helped my wife with her coat he said "What are you trying to do? Make the rest of us guys look bad?" His wife replied, "He doesn't have to do that. You do that on your own." Not much conversation at that table during the meal.
