Do you have a dog that's good with chickens? Please share!

This dog doesn't like chickens, he LOVES them!

We have a chow x lab mix [his name is Bo] who is the absolute best with the chickens. The chickens are afraid of him, but he could care less - he's very laid back. We also have a Norweigian Elkhound [his name is Jake] - he's wonderful around the chickens too. On the other hand, we have a Boston Terror, err I mean, Boston Terrier [her name is Rosie]. If there would be a competition as to what dog is the best as killing chickens, our BT would win every time

. We love her, but wholly cow does she ever have a prey drive and a half! The two boy dogs can be around the chickens 24/7 even if I'm not around, but the BT can only go outside to roam around when the chickens are all locked up for the night. She's a handful.

I'm getting some really good feedack - thank you all!

So...how do you teach a dog to not bother what's "yours"?

Yes, I do have Cesar's book but there's nothing in it specifically about this topic.

LOL, that's my border collie!

He really does love them, he will lay in next to the baby brooder and guard them. When they are out he licks them and cuddles them into his chest! When they all settle in, he will lay his head down and let them sleep! If we have company over and they bring a dog, he will growl and keep all the other dogs away from his babies!

My German Shorthaired Pointer, Cocoa, is fabulous with the birds. She has never tried to hurt them though she can't reist jogging through them to make them scatter once in a while.

She knows she is not suposed to do this so when she makes her move she looks up at the sky! Then, when she has accomplished her mission, she stops and looks at me like,

Oh, My! I did not even see those chickens there! Woops!

It is a riot!

Please bear in mind that GSP's are a bird dog breed and have heavy hunting instincts! She is NOT the norm for this breed in any way other than build and her intense point. They are not a good choice to have with chickens!!!

i would go with a Great Pierenese . They are so cute. They are almost as big as a St. Bernard, but they are all white.

I have an Airedale terrier, she's NOT so trustworthy with the chickens, as far as I'm concerned.
My Tibetan terrier loves them. She helps me herd them, and is honestly afraid of them if they turn at her.

We have a border collie x anatolian and he's AWESOME. We also have a Borzoi and the only bad thing about him & the chickens is that's an egg-stealer! So if you leave the coop door or the door to the runs open, he will sneak inside and grab an egg, race out & to the far end of the yard! LOL

I have two mutts of unknown origin who are fine with the chickens. One looks a lot like a black lab but has a chow tail. The other looks like a cross between a cocker spaniel and a chihuahua, probably with some dachsund thrown in. My son's dogs also roam among the chickens without a problem, one is a pure black lab, the other some cocker sized black and white shorthaired thing. All know what no and leave it mean, and they ignore the chickens. Two hunt and kill mice and rats, and another will kill strange cats, buts leaves mine alone. The fourth barks at but runs away from everything.
