Do You Heat Your Coop? (Poll) LATEST UPDATE PG 15

Yes.

I have an older roo who does not like it very cold. Ceramic heat lamp does the trick. I have it connected to a timer so I can estimate the number of hours needed to keep it comfortable but not hot, depending on the forecast. Also have an on at 35 off at 45 gadget that I could use instead. It's in the teens out this morning (windchill single digit) and was 30 in the coop when I went out to check so I popped the heater back on to give a few extra degrees that I know he prefers. His hen friend is more cold tolerant.

One of our problems here this year are dramatic drops and dramatic increases in temps that do not allow time for acclimation. E.g., in June it went from 70 to 110 literally overnight. This Wednesday it will be nearly 60 but Thursday it will be only 30. It's a roller coaster.

No.....maybe in January or Feb I will put the heat light on a timer in the early mornings and have it come on for a couple hours .and Only if the Temperatures are unbelivablely cold like - 25 C etc.
I use a heated dog dish....also have a thermometer at roost height in the coop to monitor how cold gets inside....

No, but I'm thinking of putting in a window refridgerated AC unit this summer... but then I'd have to insulate. They survived 116 in the shade last summer, I guess they'll survive.

My barn where most of my chickens live, where my 4 to 8 week brooders
are, and where I hang out is heated by propane.

My meat birds living in my garden greenhouse do not have heat.

Sorry, none of my answers are ever simple.
