2 - 250 watt red heat lamps in the 12 X 20 chook shed over the waterers. 1 - 250 watt red heat lamp in the 10 X 12 coop that is on for 2hrs once the door is closed for the night and then again for an hour first thing in the a.m. to get the girls warmed up. I do turn on the 1 in the coop once the door is opened to the outside air if the temp outside is below 30. The girls go in and roost to warm up and wait their turns to lay their eggs.
Haven't done it yet but thinking about it. For the last few nights I've been toting 2 buckets filled with hot soapstone rocks that were heated on our woodstove. Now that's love! Trying to stay off grid for now. It bumps the temps up about 5 degrees and I'm also working on the humidity. Not sure how long this is going to last - the rocks are pretty heavy. It was below zero last night and the coop was 22 this morning. Its insulated.
