When my father married my mother, he learned that my mother, as most sane women do, kept chocolate available at all times. On the counter, in the pantry, and on the mantle. She practiced restraint, but he couldn't and got his first cavity. Mother had to stop buying chocolate (or so he thought she did, but I know different
) because he would eat it all, then grumble about eating it all.

Ahhh so you saw that SpongeBob episode huh? I HATE that show, but I did see that one... and darned if that line didn't remind me of Patrick.
Dieselgrl48 afraid you're going to have to be the one to put your foot down... sis's BF is the same way... leech of this relative for a couple days until they kick him out, then hit this one, then this one, then this one... he makes a circuit so he never has to keep a job (much less support the nearly DOZEN kids he's fathered and left)... and yet Sis just keeps on getting sucked in... he leeches of the tiny bit of money she gets in child support for my niece... uses that to support herself, DD AND new baby... and the jerk won't keep a job to even pay for his OWN beer and whatnot. She isn't going to get rid of him, you want him not leeching off you then you'll have to do it. Ain't gonna be pretty either. Maybe if he doesn't have free food, shelter, shower, etc at every turn he'll decide to get a job just so he can (have a place and thus) get a bath? A theory anyways. It's hard when there's YOUR loved one (not to mention a baby) caught in the middle of it. But, as I've told my mom repeatedly, why should she/he grow up when they don't have to?
says the sucker who just took them cooking stuff, TP, PT, and cleaning supplies. *sigh*
I'm really lucky that DH's mom is NOT a great cook... (personally I think she could be great, but she HATES cooking, loathes it, so she puts in minimum effort and doesn't care about results) when we first started dating, and for years into our marriage they ate burgers on the grill with chips... Tyson roasted chicken with micro baked tators and green beans... and the fish... OY, that was the worst... glass pie plate, butter substitute, and frozen then defrosted fillets of some kind... MICROWAVED... no salt, pepper, lemon... nothing.
No changes either... that's what they had over and over... leftover chicken... another baked potato and the rest of the beans... maybe some corn if not much left. She's expanded a little since then... she'll brown some HBR and throw in a can of Prego for sketti now... and they'll do sub sandwiches... but the old standbys are still there.
Poor hubby couldn't stand green beans for YEARS he ate so many... and while I thought the chicken was tasty, I'd never had one of theirs, even I got burned out after a while... and it's good chicken so you know that took a lot.
So... as I said, I am lucky. DH was just so happy not to be eating the same three meals that he snarfed up anything I put in front of him... and still does. And, I guess the kids follow our example as they're pretty good about it too.
DD hates beans... even sweet baked beans.. but she'll eat a few bites... both hate turnip/mustard/collard greens and Brussel sprouts but they'll eat a few... they prefer spinach, broccoli and asparagus. Again, I'm lucky.
But, you don't mind the Halloween Candy Horde and it'll be GONE in 1-2 days with tummy aches to follow. I don't get it myself, I was a weirdo I guess with my pacing of my HCandy. And we have treats around the house... apothecary jar of M&Ms, old school candy sticks and taffy (from our trip to Ark, stopped at Brown's)... things like that are around in plain sight... yet they don't ask for them, and they don't sneak them...
Ohhh but they haven't noticed yet that I found an ice cream maker... just a little one, you freeze the bottom part so when ready it only takes like 30 minutes... regular 34.99, on sale for 20... when I got the canner I got this too... I bet they'll flip when they get homemade ice cream for the first time!! YAY!
