Do you host Thanksgiving?

After my grandparents passed I became the host. It will be 3 years on thanksgiving to the day since we moved into our house. I am in the 20-30 range, and cook everything except the fried rice myself, thats my aunts homemade deal everything homemade. We also have atleast one one other firefighter family here along with single soldiers far from home. The count this year will be 15 confirmed with 6 who still are not sure due to scheduals at work.

I love Thanksgiving. Unfortunately I don't get to host it. My husband is one of eight and we live next door to his parents. All major holidays are held there. The food is always good and I get along with my MIL quite well. If we lived down by my family I would get to host, at least once in a while. I'm 25 and my hubby is 32.

I host and cook all but the mashed sweet potatoes, my DD brings them. I have cooked since 1972 for various members of our family. This year it will be my DH and two children and my two grandchildren. Everything is homemade and as much from the garden as possible. I love Thanksgiving...just good food and family w/o gifts and such to get in the way. Here is a photo of last years carved turkey. My son is the family carver, and all the men do the dishes!
I am way over 50, but not yet 60

I am in my early-40s. I have cooked most Thanksgivings for the past 15 years. My DH has mostly brothers, just one sister. None of these dear folks like to cook. I would rather host than travel (even 2 hrs. down the road).

My advice is: #1) "don't kill yourselfover a meal." #2) Plan. It is amazing how much one can do ahead (rolls!) or delegate (pies!) or cross off the list. I try to shop wayyyy ahead. I also do a great many snackie items (cheese platter, fruit, nuts, olives...) so that by the time dinner is ready, everyone is pretty happy with turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole & a roll.

I also recommend drinking a little wine, if you are inclined to do so. That way I can laugh & send DH to deal with the overflowing toilet or vomiting dog or whatever.

I always cook Thanksgiving dinner, but it's just the 6 of us. Our families live far away, and everyone else is busy with their own families. I love cooking holiday dinners, it is crazy, fun, and delicious. This year though, dh is deployed, so it will be rather lonely. I am almost 40.
