Do you kiss your chickens?

awwww. That is the cutest thing! My girl Skittles looks very much like HoneyBird. She loves to be snuggled too. Her and her sister Snapple (AKA LittleHen) are both the biggest lovebugs.

I know some people say they don't kiss there chickies because they peck at poop and step in it. Mine don't peck at poop or even step in it. I change their bedding just about everyday and clean it out several times a day when I'm around them. Most of my bantams have feathered shanks and feet and I keep them clean, clean, clean. I use baby-wipes on their feet and than I put hand cream on them as well as their combs and wattles. I also powder them almost everyday. They smell good and they are clean and very kissable.

They loved being hugged, even the roosters love it. I love to kiss my rooster's clean combs.

Some of my chickens are friendly and want to be picked up and held, some will not let that happen. I do kiss my friendly Barred Rocks, Delawares and any other one that lets me. I love them so much, they nuzzle down and snuggle with me while I am holding them. They are my wonderful pets that I never thought I would love this much, but they know I love them. (at least I tell myself that when they great me when they think I have a treat for them)

Yes, though I have to admit I can detect the smell of poo on their necks sometimes. I go wash my mouth.
I wondered how they could get their necks poopy and then saw them scratching their necks---duh!

I came down with what I'm guessing is food poisoning pretty bad for a few hours last weekend.
I was wondering how much concentrated salmonella might by on their feathers.
Anyone know?

Haha!
I'm not the only one!
Yeah, I kiss them all the time and I'm not sick...yet...
Can't wait 'till chicks are here in April, I hope they're ready for some kissin'!!!

I must also admit this...my baby chick, Ivory, also likes to peck my tongue!

Seriously, if she's taking a nap near my shoulder and if my mouth is open, she'll stick her head right in to peck my teeth and my tongue!

I find it funny, not disgusting. She sometimes eats her poop by mistake but her brooder box is clean and overall she's a clean little baby chick that I don't mind kissing on the head or beak.

In fact I spend so much time with our chickens and other pets and I must admit, sometimes I get a little busy and forget to wash my hands once and a while, yet I am overall healthy and I sometimes get sick and when I do get sick, it's pretty brief and it's nothing serious because I guess I have a strong immune system.

So yeah, I kiss my pets all the time. I kiss our dogs on the head (sorry, won't let them lick my mouth! They will lick my face but dogs put so many different things in their mouths and their mouths/tongues have been who-knows-where...so thy can lick my face but not my mouth! lol), I kiss our chickens and I kiss our Parakeets and our Cockatiel. I sometimes forget to often wash my hands but I'm still healthy and alive today.

From the day I got my girls, I would pick them up one by one everyday and kiss them on the head (making sure to make a big kissy noise). Now they love it. Even if they are in a bad mood and squirm when I first pick them up, as soon as I givem a little kiss they just relax and enjoy. Love my girls
