Do You Own A Gun ?

Some, but I bet many are grandfathered in and if sold they need to be careful or the property looses some rights.

We my home is noisy with birds, frogs, chickens, coyotes, cows, and occasionally tractors. Sometimes you can hear the train whistle from the town 8 miles away, but not always.

Cows can get noisy, especially during weaning time.
I understand your unease, but I think you and your family would quickly learn to live the quiet life away from the city. Most of your fears, being in the dark, away from conveniences and security are miss placed. I think response time is around 30 minutes here, give or take depending on alot. And the deputy or sheriff that would come is someone I have actually met, same with the first responders. I let my girls run around I outside all day playing, the two year old usually naked. The biggest danger those girls face here is themselves, and tractors. My neighbor keeps an eye in our place during the day and if he sees anything suspicious checks it out, DH has helped him many times and he is always happy to return the favor. I can walk 2miles down my gravel road and not see a single car, if I do it is probably the neighbor or his wife.
Cities have so many people and they all seem angry, county life is much better (though I admit slower). Beyond the fact that a person must work and country life does not have many opportunities, it us beyond me why anyone lives in a city. I do understand that everyone is different and chalk it up to it takes all types to make the world go round.

i think there's a saying.. when seconds count the police is only minutes away ?

when your neighbors are miles away.. if something happened.. how do they know?

the response time around here is aroudn 2-5 minutes.. the goal is too keep it under 5 minutes.. i live close to the police station and fire station+ shopping center.

supermarkets, costco, sam's clubs, wal-mart, homedport, banks, etc.. are within 1/2-3 miles radius of my house. easy access to the freeway

walk 2 miles and not see a single car-- true it will depend on the person.. since that statement can be scary to some.. since it's showing how isolated the location will be

true.. people living in the cities seem to be on edge.. but they are not the majority..

i guess kind of like chickens. when you put so many in such a small space there will be behavior problems

i guess there are pros and cons for the city vs rural

for my area.. the county land is a bit different since neighbors are still within sight distance..  they are not 20-30 ft away..  but maybe 100-300ft away..  NO HOA.. which is pretty nice

i saw a for sale sign for a house on county close to me.. looks like a lot work though..

- will need to put in a driveway
- get rid of weeds
- build a surrounding fence
- add in light posts + motion sensor lights

lastly probably the house--  type of plumbing? insulation, paint? etc.

since looks like a lot of things are not up to codes.. it might be best to just demolish it and build a new one from the ground up..

all these things are possible when i hit the powerball jackpot or something

back to topic-- you stated that you don't use your guns for protection?

does your family know how to use the guns if needed?

i can't help it.. the concerns are reasonable though.. since "what if" situations happened ? and so on

We have guns, we have shot those guns before. But we do not live in fear enough that we feel the need to arm ourselves from people. Yes sure something could happen, but I am much more likely to die in a car wreck (even when I take all the necessary precautions) then by a home invasion where we take next to no precautions. Despite this, people (my BIL included) still spend an inordinate amount of money and resources on getting guns to protect themselves, and then they text and drive :/

we are in a time where people are obsessed with technology and can't seem to find anything to do beside spending countless hours online going through social media posts

they even created laws making it illegal to "walk and text".. yes.. there's such a law. because there are people who were killed because they didn't pay attention while walking or caused major accidents. etc..

the "smart" technology trend didn't really help.. as i think the users are getting more stupid in my honest opinion

anyway.. back to guns

what's the price of ammo in your state?

are they pretty cheap ? let say price of FMJ or HP rounds?

a box of 50 rounds for 112gr FMJ .. wa-mart price.. around $14.67 federal brand

wal-mart often will have federal or winchester brand ammo..

they have them in boxes of 50, 100, 200 and 1000 rounds..

I don't think I would shoot someone who was just stealing stuff especially if they are on the way out. The police said that if you think someone is in your house go into a bedroom or some other room you can get to and barricade yourself. Then if they try to get in that room shoot them. When I am home alone all night I lock my room and the bathroom that leads into it from the hall. If someone tries to get in they are dead or badly injured. If they touch my doorknob I will ask no questions and shoot through the door.

We sleep on the upper floor, so if something happened, and we woke, the plan is: stair door stays closed always (this is actually to prevent little girls from going downstairs while we sleep) and we have a straight line of site and about 50 ft for someone to shoot. They can have whatever they want downstairs until the police show up.
I do not know the price of ammo, because I have never been the one to buy it. I have been told 22 ammo is through the roof, but I would have to ask DH or my dad for specific prices.

well it's a personal choice

no one can tell you what you can and can't do in your own house during a home invasion..

some people will run and hide and call the police (while the criminals clean out their houses of valuables)

i'm not the type to just let some criminals going through my house and just take what they want as i hide in the closet waiting for help to arrive..

i always make sure the doors are locked (windows are always locked) before leaving the house

so if you are in my house when i got home and i don't know you.. sorry but... unless you can somehow make it to the public street or able dodge bullets then consider my house the last one you will ever invade!

killed during home invasion .. it's a common thing around here

the right to rob (if there's such a thing..) vs the right to defend your life or property

even if it's going to court.. breaking into someone's house is not a right.. so good luck if the criminals think they have a case against the homeowner. for home invasion cases

to be honest.. a house/apartment is a place where people can feel safe and secure.. if the place was broken into ...it will not feel the same..

since that sense of security you had until the invasion is not there anymore..

We do not use our guns to protect ourselves from people...and we do not have a 22. That is just the only ammo whose prices I have heard anything about.
I do not know my guns well enough to give you their names. We have a low power rifle for killing raccoons and coyotes. I was told when we got it it probably won't kill a grown man but it would really slow them down. A deer rifle and a shotgun. The low powered rifle is the only one we keep ammo with, the firing pin out.
