Do You RENT your property?

We love our landlords they were open to the chicken and garden idea and we are paying far less than other houses for rent in the area and we have a fabulous yard. Our landlords are our neighbors and have become like family. We even spent Thanksgiving with them. I feel so fortunate to have them.

We rent a townhouse. It has a two-car garage and a deck, but no real yard.

I have a tiny garden by the front sidewalk and that's about it.

The rent is about $1,000 per month, which isn't terrible for us, we're just not getting a return on our investment. We're going to continue renting one more year and then see what the economy is doing. We will probably buy property and begin building a house within two or three years.

We are renting at the moment. It's a nice little house in a wonderful neighborhood, we jumped on it when my friend who was living in it moved up to Portland. Our landlady is lovely, and has said on many occasions how happy she is that she has someone who love to garden in the house. She is fine with our plethora of pets and was easygoing about us getting chickens. She also is fine with us painting the walls however we want. Our rent is far below what she could be getting for this house, considering its location (by the University). This has allowed us to pay off most of our debt (minus some student loans) and at our current savings rate we will be able to get a nice house in the country next fall. In the mean time we are glad to have such a wonderful landlady, they are as hard to find as dependable tenants..

I just have to chime in... I dont rent .. we bought 3 years ago..

I bought a house and didnt fall for any ARM.. I guess gambling blood is not in my body.. when they offered that to me.. chills ran up my spine.. (litterally) The thought of not knowing what I would have to be paying was a horrible one..

I am soooo glad that I didnt do that.. nothing changes and I pay the same every month.. I am so glad for that.

We still are scraping by to make the payment right now and we dont have an option to ask for lowering our payment. But it isnt going to go up..

THank goodness..

Way to go on those of you who are getting their rent lowered! It is being pretty smart!

The fellow that I rent my land to is getting a SUPER GREAT deal... he gives me $70 an acre for the entire year. (He's overdue on his rent payment for the year... it's due the 15th.)

I need to go up and build a house on that place and let him find land elsewhere to rent.

Boy I wish you where one of our tenants......we only have major problems with one, and they are driving me nuts.......we rent them an 8 bedroomed Shooting Lodge on our hill farm in Wales.....they live like gypsys! the squalor is not nice, they have no respect for the property, although they have been tenants a long time, it has become intolerable...it is costing a fortune to maintain, far more than their rent. Sadly I have issued a Notice of Repossession, I would rather see it empty than continue to rent to them....it will be a battle to get them out. I hope that when they do leave and we completely fix it back up we will be able to rent to a family who will look after it and consider it home and not just somewhere to "throw your rubbish"..........they pay £85.00 per week and have 2500 acres to roam about in...plus stables for horses and chickens and private car park and drive, all surround with woodland....it is beautiful but they wont/don't appreciate it.

Great example of what can happen if you do your homework and just ask. The worst that could have happened is they say "no", but you may just get what you ask for or maybe a compromise... which is still better than not asking.
