Do you think it's rude....

I get downright outrageous about it. Do NOT park in the handicapped parking spots unless you are handicapped.

I wasn't able to get a sticker when I had knee surgery, and almost always had to park WAY out in the north forty. By the time I made it to the store, I was so tired, I had to sit on the bench next to the entrance. Sucked majorly.

I feel guilty about using my HC placard. I am only in constant pain, and have nerve damage in my feet. I know that pain is not something that will harm me physically. But still it is hard to realize that if you need to go into a store this maybe the only option. I rarely go to Walmart. It is just to big to walk around. So I try to stay local. I have to say i have never had anyone challenge me about using the parking spot. I am fairly certain I would report a violator if I crossed one.

So, I am sometimes guilty of using the HC spot, BUT, it's always at 3am ,there are always at least 3 other HC spots available, and I never take the closest one. I would NEVER do it during the day. I guess it's more of a safety thing. I do feel more vulnerable at that time of night, but that's when I usually have time to do my shopping, when I get off of work. I know it's technically wrong, but I figure the odds of more than 3 handicapped people showing up to do their shopping, at the same time I'm there, are pretty slim.

I understand your safety thing, but your reasoning otherwise is the same reason people park in MY HC spots at my store. They are thinking 'what are the chances' of a HC person coming in while I am here. Granted, I am a very small remote store, but again, not the point.

Iffin I were you, I would place a sign right at the front door that says, "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." The next time someone parks in the HC place, ask them ONCE nicely to move. If they choose not to, then you should choose not to serve them.

I wish someone had spoken up to me about it one day. I had taken my kids to Chick Fila, and it was at night, and raining. This was just before Christmas last year. I parked, we went inside to enjoy the milkshakes we had won in a radio contest. When we came back out, I realized I had inadvertently parked in a disabled parking spot. I felt so bad.

I would never intentionally do that, and I am much more careful now about where I park. Still feel badly about that.
