I absolutely agree, but as a seller, I have to try hard to protect my sales recommendations. As a buyer, I try to talk with the seller, and go on my way if they aren't willing to be helpful. I'm not out blabbing about it, but I'm not making anyone favorable recommendations in that case, either.

I believe a person's selling personality shows, and I pay attention to mine, too.

I'm glad the OP got a good experience out of this, and it can mean a lot in the future for the seller.

ETA: I'm VERY forgiving- it really needs to be blatant before I'll blame the seller. If I paid a ton for the eggs, though, and the packing was mediocre and the eggs looked infertile after 10+ days of cooking and careful opening, I expect some accommodation, even if only a discount on more eggs. When met with a lack of interest, I feel snubbed.

I sell on Ebay, I've sold on here, I've sold on several other sites and I sell locally. I'll tell you right now that I don't get 100% fertility at my house with 1 roo and 3 hens. The seller is being very kind to replace the eggs. I always give the buyer the benefit of the doubt...the first time. I'll bend over backwards to satisfy my customers. I want happy and hopefully repeat customers.

Recently I had someone that I shipped eggs to tell me that the first batch was leaking after one day in the incubator. I felt horrible. I sent her out another batch of eggs. Then she told me that there were half developed chicks in the second batch I sent her!! What?? Then she wanted a 3rd batch of eggs!! I decided to cut my losses and just refund her money. So she left me negative feedback. UGH! I couldn't win.

Now, I bought eggs from someone that replied on this thread. Out of a dozen eggs that I bought, 1 hatched...just one. Was I disappointed? Yes. Did I contact the seller? Yes. What was the sellers response? "Sorry but they were fertile when they left here." Do you think I'll buy eggs from this person again? No. Do you think I'll recommend this person? No.

Good luck with your new eggs

...the sellers response? "Sorry but they were fertile when they left here."

Hi! That's what I don't understand. Since no one can tell whether an egg is fertile or not without cracking it (which makes it unhatchable) or by incubating it and cracking out at 6 or 7 days if it doesn't grow --- how can one say "they were fertile when they left here."? I genuinely don't get that mentality from a seller of 'eggs for hatching'.

As far as a guarantee? By offering 'eggs for hatching' in the first place, that should be an 'implied guarantee' that the eggs are fertile.

If I see a listing that says "I don't replace eggs for any reason", I won't buy.

Then she told me that there were half developed chicks in the second batch I sent her!!

Hi! Had you candled the eggs prior to wrapping and packing? I've read of folks (not your situation) getting 'partially developed' eggs in an egg box. I candle all eggs before I w&p them. If someone came up with that nonsense, I could say with all certainty they are telling a tale.
There are some greedy folks on out there.

I may be the minority on this, but I believe a seller should be selling eggs they believe to be FERTILE. I understand that in a batch of 12 or more, you may have a small percentage that are infertile from the get go, but more than half?!? That seems to be a situation that needs to be brought to the seller's attention. I'm sure a seller would want to know if this is happening, so they can see what the problem is and fix it i.e. old rooster, fluffy butts getting in the way

Any reputable seller wants to sell fertile eggs, and if someone has PROOF that the majority of their eggs were infertile, I would expect the seller to compensate them in some way or another. A seller that does not compensate gives the impression that they know there is a problem and don't care. The contract is that you are purchasing eggs for the purpose of hatching. The majority of them should leave the seller fertile and well packaged, hence extras. What happens during shipping is out of the seller's control, but fertility and packing the eggs is not. JMHO.
To the OP: I am glad the seller was able to make good on your order. Good luck with your new bunch.

Ive sold egg's over the last couple years and never shipped any from newly laying breeds until I hatched some myself.I had good reports on my egg's.I just shipped a healthy amount a couple week's ago to one buyer.I have had Super fertility on my duck and chicken egg's so Unless the PO Xrayed them etc. most should show at least fertile.I havent taken out many non fertile egg's since I been hatching since Jul/Aug,Even fertile will not always hatch depends on hatching method, incubator. Etc.Im now using 2 crappy LG's and well have hatched quite a few but by no mean's what I got in my Sportsman when I had it.

That's the issue I had. I know that nobody can guarantee 100% fertility. I even can't. An infertile egg here or there is fine and I would not complain about that at all, it happens. It was less than 50% though and that is a fertility problem that needs to be corrected.

Oh and Thanks!

I had read in an article printed by Texas A&M research program that anything more than 4 hens per roo were guaranteeing infertile eggs.

As I'm still in learning mode I suppose that I can say that I also have a broody. I pulled her in from outside tonight as a result for anothers experiment and she is doing great with her 25 eggs, wow that's a lot of chicks, hummm!! I wonder what they'll look like, I have mostly sex links, a wide variety of color here. I wonder how many will hatch considering this is her first clutch. Might they all be hers, I don't ever see others going toward her nesting site.

Oh no, this could mean trouble if I decide to keep them just to see what they turn out to look like. I wonder how many roos I'll end with as if my 5 big boys aren't enough now and they're not including my bantams, I have 7 of them.

It's pouring chickens here in virginia, we're for lovers!! lol:)

Heck yeah they should be. I had four supposly " Fertile button eggs" I had put four in the incubator and gave the rest to a friend. Well yesterday I opened them up and there was no chick they werent even fertile so I let my friend know. She candled the eggs and saw nothing so she cracked them and nothing. I let the person who I bought them from know hey those eggs you sold me werent even "fertile" at all..

Then I told them what can we do to fix this without involving Ebay.. Yeah its frustrating when you are told hey these eggs are fertile and they arent. Know I know not every seller does this so Im not blaming everyone . Just my opinion..
