They are adorable!! Kinda like Poodles - there must be a purpose (maybe?) to the feathers - safer against predators since they can't tell the front from the back.
Can't wait to get one or two, my family thinks they are cool!!
They are pretty cute and there are FAR uglier chickens out there! My DB describes my two silkies as "chickens that look like they have been in an oil spill".
My two are name Sqeeker and Tweeker.
I hear ya there, show girls, that was a bad name for them wasnt it, turkens, and yes toss the moderns in there too, they look like a blame t-rex crossed to a chicken to me.

Same for me! Although i am still debating if i think they are cute or not.. but i am leanign more towards cute.. i really just like them because they are differnt and they are good moms
Different looking, yes. Ugly, well depends. I've seen some well bred ones and some not so well bred ones. I don't have any bantams (I'm a standard person so far), but I will admit, I do like the partridge silkies. (well bred of course)
ETA: I'll probably never get any though, just too much hawk bait running around, unless I have a covered run for them. They are certainly appealing as broodies though.
This is what I love about byc - people can have an opinion and folks don't get their knickers all wadded up over it.
I don't think silkies look like chickens, but I don't necessarily think they are ugly either. I just bought two ideal hatchery silkie chicks in hopes that they will make good broodies. It is entirely likely that I am raising two silkie roosters, but I won't know until they either start crowing or laying.
