My silkie girl roosts on the bottom roost (which is pretty near the floor, was intended more as kind of a step ladder than anything) for the most part, but will huddle with the big girls and roo on the top roost when it's a bit chilly out. Think that's out of necessity because she has no one to cuddle with on that bottom roost lol!
I have 9 pens of silkies and in each I have a roost.
I place the roosts in a corner in each pen about half
roost while the others cuddle in the corner behind the roost.
My silkie roosts are movable so the cleaning is easyer for me
I make them out of 3/4 foot sections cut from 2X2's
Placed 6 inches off the floor. I have about 60 birds.
so I would say 30 silkies roost and 30 silkies sleep in piles in the corner.
All my silkies roost after about 6 months old... however, the roosts I have for them are either 6 inches or 24 inches from the ground...so it may almost be like sleeping in a pile... they prefer the lower roost.
