I offered chick grit to my ducklings in a bowl on the side. I wanted to be extra careful.Speaking of grit.... Do I just offer it "on the side" like I do my chickens? I'm getting treats for them today. They are bigger girls, for sure.

Did you ever figure out something for the water situation? I just changed their water many times daily. Many many times daily. It worked for me because I sat with them all day anyway.Ok... Another question...
How do I keep them from running out of water? I had to put an incredibly messy 1 gallon chicken waterer in there, but most of that ends up in the pan beneath it. I had a plastic tub with holes in the lid that allowed them to stick their heads in, but they emptied it so quickly.
Any suggestions, my experienced duck-adoring friends?
I just got a big ol' bowl with a lid and cut holes in the lid. It's not perfect, but it's better than what I had going before.Did you ever figure out something for the water situation? What have you been using for them to swim in? They are getting so big!Day 27 - Sunday 3/7/21

From left to right: Marmalade, Clementine, Figgy, and Peanut.
They got some good outside time today. We are working on coming when they are called. It works to a point. I can get them to come to me, but as soon as I pick one up, Clementine and Marmalade take off. Figgy and Peanut are fine with me picking them up. I ended up chasing Clementine all over the front yard this afternoon.....
Then they had "swimminsss time" this evening, and I made the water deep enough for them to actually float. They are very sleepy duckies tonight.
My son's bathtub! Haha! I put the duckies in it every night, and I wash the duckie muck out of it out every night...What have you been using for them to swim in? They are getting so big!
Clementine was my favorite from the beginning!Day 26 - Saturday 3/6/21
I AM SUCH A BAD DUCKIE MOMMY. I missed so much time working! This thread is titled "Documenting Day to Day Duckie Development" not "Documenting Duckie Development Occasionally" or "Sporadically" or "When I Get a Chance."
FAIL.
But here they are:

Figgy - She's actually the friendliest and easiest to handle, which I didn't expect being a Runner.

Peanut - Peanut is huge and silent. I'm still waiting for a quack. But Peanut doesn't make any noise. At all. Very easy going, calm duckie.

Marmalade - The shyest of the bunch. She was cuddly as a tiny duckling, but now she's become rather timid. She is the only one of the 4 who won't jump at the chance to take treats from me.

Clementine - She's a real character! She's very talkative and active. She is super curious and always wants to see what's going on. She plays with everything. Seems like she's the ringleader.
It is not the ducky muck, that washes off pretty easy with the showerhead and warm water. But the epic flooding on the floor when they do the zoomies is another story…My son's bathtub! Haha! I put the duckies in it every night, and I wash the duckie muck out of it out every night...
Oh, but it IS the duckie muck! Peas and kale (and pea and kale poop) make the water green! It is not the ducky muck, that washes off pretty easy with the showerhead and warm water. But the epic flooding on the floor when they do the zoomies is another story…![]()
