Yes, I am grateful for the chicks I have! It is just so frustrating not getting any of the 4 Orps through the hatch! OK, now I will just hope for this last batch to make it!

ETA:
it will be a bit before we even know if they work.....They were bought used many years ago, and I decided I wanted the Brinsea for the parrots, so they were stored in my mom's garage for about 15yrs.

in 2006 I lost everything to a wildfire ......DH found these in the garage and brought them up to me at home. I bought a different house on 5 lots about 4 miles from the one that burned. I now have more Chickens than Parrots. But I had not even remembered buying these...there were 2 Styrofoam incubators, 2 round metal bator/hatcher/brooder things & 1 (Battery) Box brooder.
they are all a mess. So I will just have to see what works....

I have a Styrofoam incubator with Fan, plugged in with a auto-turner the Fan & the Turner is working and it is warm in there, but I don't know if it is warm enough. DH will be bringing home new Thermometers when he comes home. Currently he is 67 miles away attempting to rebuild a Transmission for our Suburban, which left me stranded after delivering 12 dozen eggs to the local store last week.

But I think my first hatch will be light brahma Roo over my laying flock of light brahmas (4), Barred Rocks (5), NHReds (2), Black Sex Link (22) and 1 EE hen.
just to test the bator and add to the laying flock. the Brahmas will then be seperated out (so I can tell whose egg is whose) for breeding/hatching.

ETA: I can't spell!

I have 2 Spanish hatched and 3 more pips. I do not like hatching in the Sportsman, because I can only get the humidity up to 50s. I prefer 60s. I dunno, maybe that makes a difference?

Pandora .... good luck with those incubators!

ETA: Make that 5 pips! Yes, I have 2 hatched and 5 more pips! AND, of course, I have to go to work.... dang it!

Kathyinmo,,if you close all ventilation holes on the back, and add sponges in the water container,,this will not raise humidity? My Brinsea has the openings on the front, and if you close them all the way down,I can watch and in as little as a few minutes time, see the rh level rise from say 45% to 55%,,,just by closing down the vent openings.I may sell my 190 EX this spring for the larger 380 Brinsea,,maybe Mo could be a new home for my 190 for you??

What are you using to put humidity in the air, Kathy? Does it have those big wick things? If you increase wet surface area somehow, that should do it. Just be careful closing down the vents since the chicks need more oxygen, not less, as they are hatching.
