I don't know how I managed to do it ... but I must have miscounted. I have 11 Dels, not 12.

Meg and Suede's baby is resting. I must come up with a name. Polly for a girl (as in Polyester)

Cord for a boy (as in corduroy).

Huh, what do ya think?

Fern's chick is already following the Fern tradition ... As I picked up 2 chicks, to transfer them into the transporting box ... The little nut jumped out of my hand!

Yes, jumped! After landing on the floor, I checked and see no obvious injury or problem.

I think I will name her Holly. Kinda like keepin' the family names similiar and also in recognition of the Christmas holiday. ... I thought Holly would be fitting. There were a few other names I considered .... Parsley, Sage, Berry, Fig, Chia (as in Chia Pet), and Moss (or Mossy).

You can check out Fern here .... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=276666

Here are pictures of Polly and Holly. Polly, (as in Polyester), was named after her daddy's (Suede) side of the family. If she does decide to crow when she grows up, her name will change to Cord (as in Corduroy).

Holly, (from the Barred Rock family), is Fern's first chick, and grandchick to Ivy. Holly has to be female, because she already acts just like her mother!

Here is Holly squawking at Polly ...

I dont know if you want to do this, and if not, no problem, but when I have Orps that go to the middle of day 22, we usually take each out and using eyeglass screwdriver, tap it into the aircell carefully, and chip a tiny, pin head size hole in the very top. That way, at least the baby won't run out of air before it can maneuver itself. Just have to make sure the hole is very tiny or the membrane will dry out. With Smoky's eggs being so narrow, sometimes the baby has a hard time getting out. And if it continues to grow in there, it will eventually get too large to get out, so I never let them go past mid-day 22. That's just the way we do it. I realize many just say if they can't get out, they won't thrive, but I haven't always found that to be true.

Polly looks just like the Meg/Suede babies usually do!
