This is taken from Oxine (AH) MSDS.
Ingestion of oxine(AH) may produce gastric discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Intake of large quantities may produce methemoglobinemia.
Medical conditions aggravated by exposure:
Skin disorders, such as dermal allergies and dermatitis.
Exposure to chlorine dioxide produced by activation can aggravate pulmonary disorders, such as emphasema.
I would definitely say no, that oxine (AH) is not approved for human consumption.
I read that, too, but I'm almost certain that refers to activated Oxine. Once activated, you can't use it directly on poultry, either, and if you sterilized a coop with it activated, you would have to remove the animals first. As is, without the activator, it can be used directly on animals and even in their water, according to the information I am seeing. I'll have to do some more research tomorrow. Now, it's time for bed!
