Does anyone else's chickens do this?

i think its a natural behavior of chickens .. it assures a fast clutch of fresh eggs and at some unspecified number of eggs will make a hen go broody ... you can dispurse 'marked' eggs to other boxes to promote their use if its a problem, change out the marked egg every 2 weeks or so i usually date them as the mark ... but, with 5-6 layers or less, if you keep the nest box theyre using in great shape, plenty of soft grass etc, AND using a box with plenty of room, it generally will produce the cleanest eggs on a daily basis rather than a bunch of boxes with 1 egg in them .. been my experience ..of course if you got 12+ layers for example, your goingto want to promote the use of other boxes ...

So we have 14 chickens and were advised when setting up our coop to have one nesting box per 4-5 hens and add more if they seem to be fighting over them. We have nine that are laying so far and they all lay in the same box! They are pretty peaceful about it and don't fight so it doesn't seem to be a problem but found two of them trying to lay in the same box at the same time this morning and thought it was pretty funny. I just wanted to see if anyone else has seen their chickens do this...View attachment 2354521
Of course! Everybody has favorites of course just like twinkies! I have to say that the light colored hen in the back looks like a rubber chicken. I didn’t think it was a real chicken - really! Sorry! Lol!

I keep a fake egg in each nest to help 'spread the love'...it works, rarely do I see more than one bird in a nest. Not that there may still be much kvetching during traffic jam time...or that there is a favorite of the day(the nest the first egg of the day is laid in).
