Does anyone experience lower backpain? *UPDATE on Post #1*

I wasn't going to post to this, as I don't want to upset anyone....but please do NOT see a chiropractor! My husband had severe back pain that resulted (long story short) in three back surgeries, and he's probably looking at another one soon. We have seen three different neurosurgeons, and all three stated they have done more back surgeries as a results of mistakes made by chiropractors. We did NOT ask their opinions in any case; they were offered. That's not to say there may be some good ones out there, and both DH and I have gone to chiropractors on many occasions. No longer, though.

I agree completely with the simple life; you need an MRI. Soft tissue damage cannot show up on a simple x-ray.

GOOD LUCK!!! Pain is awful...especially back pain. Having gone through the surgeries that DH had, I wish it on NO ONE.

I was wondering if I should request some sort of testing. The last time I went to the doc for my back, I thought it could be related to starting to workout and maybe the pain was from that. I haven't had the chance to workout and haven't done anything to result in this pain now. I will request an MRI tomorrow. Thanks

morelcabin,

Can you believe I have NEVER been to a chiropractor? Have always wanted to try it, but I don't think my insurance covers it. I may have to try it though, just in case it works!

Also vote for chiropractor (along with some of the other good advise). I fell down some brick steps and injured my back many years ago and wouldn't be nearly as mobile and painless without regular chiropractic care.

Have you tried a heating pad sometimes that will help a little until you can see your doc. Back pain is the worst, its so hard for a doctor to actually diagnos without an MRI or CAT scan (xrays dont alwas show whats wrong). Please keep us updated. I hope your feeling better!

I deal with back pain on a daily bases. I have been given different medications but that doesn't cure anything. It just covers up the problems. I also can't take them right now as i'm still nursing my little girl. My insurance doesn't cover a chiropractor but does cover osteopath. The only problem is that the closest one is like 2 hours away. Thanks Tricare

But I believe I have a split disc and sciatic nerve issues. I need to just shell out the money for a chiropractor. I know how you feel. We should start a Bad Backs club!

I too agree w/the simple life re: MRI; and once you get the results, you may be able to work yoga into your physical therapy, it's helped my back tremendously.

I had that problem just this past year.. pain at the top of the pelvis and traveling down my right leg.. I found the culprt that agravated it was the reclining chair that I always sat in..the front of the seat was too far from the back=rest and it was pulling my legs forward at the knees.. I found a smaller chair and tadaaa, the leg pain is gone.. I still have a dull back pain, but that is from a bad fall I took where I landed on my head..

please, no "duh" jokes.. LOL

Believe me, it does work! I had a head on collission 5 years ago. broke the steering wheel in half with my forehead. The whiplash was incredible. First thing I did was call my chiro. Within three weeks I was fine:>) I would have never thought it would work that well but I have never had any reprocussions since. The guy I hit was driving a 3/4 ton van...I was driving a small Tracker...he can't work anymore. All I did was put a good dent in his van...but I totalled mine completely, the frame buckled and the doors popped. The kids were with me. My young son put his feet through the glove box.
Anyway you never know how crooked you are until you go see a chyripractor and walk out of there standing straight up with a whole lot of pressure GONE!

Ok, I can't help the OP, but had to share my "funny" back pain story.

5 years ago, I took a bad fall rock climbing and shattered my L1 vertebra. Like, the two halves of my spine were not connected together, don't move or you will paralyze yourself for life injury.

So, after two days at the hospital on my back in a brace from my hips to my neck. They want MORE x-rays to make sure everything is still lined up ok.

They wheel me down to x-ray and ask me to stand up. I mention to the tech that I have not stood up since my injury. He panics and calls the neurosurgeon (quite wisely) to be in the room when I stand up "just in case".

The neurosurgeon comes in and looks REALLY annoyed that he was called down here for this. And says to me, "JUST STAND UP. You are fine, there's nothing wrong with you!"

Ah, right, except for that two halves of my spine not being connected together thing, yeah.

Holy cow, they were right when they said that neurosurgeons have the worst bedside manner.

Like most everyone else is saying, see a doctor who will find the problem and take care of it. Don't take no for an answere. Insist they do tests. Too many doctors treat the obvious and easiest for too long. When things get really bad then they send you to a specialist, mean while you have suffered way too long and the problem may get to a point that permanent damage has been done. Back pain can be caused by many different things. Don't settle for a guess from your doctor.
