Hi there. I have a backyard flock of free ranging chickens of various mixed breeds. One year ago I acquired a few more different breeds and brought them home as a novice without the proper incubation period. They got sick shortly after and my precious birds got sick as well. The symptoms were:
-bubbly eyes
-coughing
-sneezing
-raspy breathing.
I treated the whole flock with antibiotics and the symptoms subsided. I just assumed it was a disease of some sort and that I treated it. This past spring, I incubated eggs and raised the chicks separately from the other flock. When I finally put them all into the big coop together, all the birds including the young ones started sneezing and at times have rattly breathing. They do not have eye bubbles. No nasal discharge. No other symptoms.
I hear sneezing often from my chickens. They look well, eat well and lay moderately. Since the symptoms seem to be chronic and when I introduced new birds, they got sick, I wonder if it's MG. does anyone have experience with this ?
A vet recommended that the whole flock be culled and start over but these are my pets. We are vegetarian and choose never to cull the birds but let them die naturally. We Do eat their eggs.
Any advice about what I should do would be appreciated or if anyone has experience with MG. I'm in Ontario Canada.
