Oh Beckie I forgot to tell you one of your booted Serama babies took a first at the show!!!!!!!!
A white one I sold as a young chick very nice pullet.
What percentage are you getting booted?

These 2 in the bator now are the first I have hatched since November or December. At that point I only had eggs from my black hen as the others were not laying. I am not sure if she was the one throwing the booted chicks, or if it was the rooster (who is no longer here, lost him with several others in a dog attack). I got 2 booted out of 5 but all their legs are clean now, not even sure which 2 hatched with feathered shanks :dunno The eggs you have now are from the black hen and 2 of her pullets along with my 3 colored hens, so I would say less chance of feathered shanks now but they COULD still pop up. I would really like to know how many hatch out with feathered shanks, that would help me know who is throwing them.

I have 2 very nice blacks out of those eggs though that have just been added to my breeding pen (a pullet and cockerel). A white pullet I gave to my Papaw has not laid her first egg yet :dunno ... mine from the same hatch have been laying for weeks.

That is awesome to hear to one did well at a show! That is so cool

One of these days when I have more time I would love to get to a few shows.

I will get you pictures when they hatch, yes I should have kept that little white one she is really nice, but I did win BV and RV with my Buff Silkies and a Best Variety with my Splash Cochin so it was Okay!
Your blacks are so nice. You need to show them.

They probably would not show well though, at least Punky would not. I was bad when they were growing up and he is really not used to being handled

It took me forever to get that pic. I brought him in the house and he turned into Mr. Squatty Chicken. I let him look in the mirror for awhile though and he decided he needed to show how big he was to that other roo (then he attacked the mirror :rolleyes ). Poor unsocialized chicken

I would love to show them though. Need to look into shows around here and give it a try.

What are you hatching besides the two Seramas? I hear you got some Turkey eggs are they the ones you can't wait for?

They turkey eggs are under the EVIL broody turkey. She tried to murder me when I switched out the rotters under her for the fresh eggs! I noticed yesterday while she was off the nest for her daily dust bath that she has at least 1 green egg under her too :rolleyes . I did not get a very good look, however, because she noticed my and had murder on her mind again ... I had to beat it out of the pen

I have the 2 seramas, 2 blue/red OEGB, 9 SS Hamburgs (I broke 1 of the 10 while candling and killed a perfect little chickie

), and 14 BBS Ameraucana

I also have 14 Hamburgs under 1 broody and 18 Hamburgs under another

as well as a bunch waiting to be set (as many as will fit after MY eggs go in MY bator ... the Hamburgs are my dad's). In the brooder I have 7 Hamburgs, 1 barred EE and 1 silky (where the heck did that come from? :dunno ) It actually showed up in a batch of chicks that were hatched off for my papaw. He brought about 30 of his eggs and got 52 mystery chicks back!

First time I have every heard of an almost 200% hatch!

I suspect he got the wrong drawer of chicks. Anyway, he gave me the silky for picking up the chicks from the guy because he was out of town when they hatched.

There is still no tapping or peeping from my bator though
