Hi, I wondered if anyone had any pictures of what Buff Orpington/Blue Cochin chicks look like when they are grown? I have mostly Buff Orpington and Buff Cochin hens, and someone gave me a beautiful Blue Cochin rooster, and I'm debating if I should keep him or not. Does anyone know which color is dominant?

I thnk there was a post the other day where some had crossed blue cochins with buff cochins, would expect the results to be similar with the Blue orps to buff cochins, they were calling their Bluff cochins. They seemed to both show (blue and buff). Will look for the thread and post a link here if I can find it.

Here it is..maybe this will give you an idea..

I think you'd get a mix of the colors or maybe even mostly black. Buff can be hard to work with.
You'd end up with partially feathered legs- almost booted, or brahma-like.
I've mixed other breeds with cochins and the feet are so silly looking.

But- they'd be a pretty (& fluffy!) mix.

Thanks for the link!

I'm not breeding for show or anything, they are just our family chickens. I started with Buff Os, and then I got a buff cochin, so I have a couple babys that have the feathered feet and are a bit heavier bodied. One is a roo, and then a friend gave me an extra blue cochin roo she got from the hatchery this year. The buff O roo we had had to go in the stewpot when he turned crazy on us in July. I'm not sure I really need to keep any roosters, but it was such fun watching the mamas and chicks this year, and seeing what the chicks grew up to be!
