Now I gotta wait see if that one ever come's back from the bottomless pit vent. NOW that reminded me That thing is back on same web right back under desk > OK Im going for big dust pan tomm.Thats just freaky!

It sounds like your daughter has hyper-pigmentation on the bite area. This is common after a spider bite. I was bitten by a yellow garden spider last summer after coming out of our coop. It bit me right on the front of my ankle and felt like a bee sting. I got a lovely bullseye pattern that turned into swelling the size of a baseball, followed by blisters and peeling skin over the area. It took 6 weeks to heal. I am now left with a lovely brown "freckle" that is the size and shape of the original bullseye pattern. I HATE spiders!!

k so now that ive read this whole thread i have to try and sleep knowing that I am never more than 3 ft away from a spider. ick ick ick ick ick

Many spiders in the US - while not harmful/deadly to humans ARE still venomous - their venom just works on insects and their potency can be equated to that of a wasp or bee really. Also some people are just more hypersensitive to bite or stings from spiders & bees and so will have a worse reaction to them. Wolf spiders are a good example, a large wolf spider can bite you say in the toe (like a previous poster) and it will redden, swell, and be very tender to the touch. However thats about the worst you'll get. However if someone is super sensitive to bee stings - they may be more likely to have a like-wise reaction to some spider bites as well.

I have a great big black and yellow orb weaver who calls one whole side of my porch her home (just the edge, from the wall of house to the first post on that side) she's been there for a few weeks now. I don't mind spiders at all - I find many quite pretty. I have also owned tarantulas as pets when I was younger

Spiders are beneficial and most are non harmful to most people, and will leave you alone if you leave them alone - just like snakes. See one? Walk the other way. The ONLY spiders I'll kill is a wolf spider in my house - those things have a habit of running across my feet. I would move them like I do everything else -but they are too freakin' fast to get ahold of them in a jar or bowl.

I was reading this and remembered something about it being good luck for a spider to make a web by your front door so I looked it up and found all this. I didn't read through the whole thread so I'm sorry if some of this is double posted. I just thought it was interesting.

When spiders are many and spinning their webs, the spell will soon be very dry
An old saying about grass spiders: when there is dew on their webs in the lawn in the morning, it will be a beautiful day.

When spiders spin their webs 'fore noon,
Sunny weather's coming soon.

If you step on a spider, you'll bring on rain.

All spiders except tarantulas are omens of good luck. The larger the spider, the bigger the rewards.

If you see a spider climbing the wall you will have your dearest wish come true.

If you see a spider spinning a web you will have an increase in your income due to hard work.

If a spider crawls into you pocket, you will always have money.

If a spider hangs over your head, you will get a letter.

If a spider builds its web across your door, you can expect company.

If you walk into a spider web, you will meet a friend that day.

Kill a spider, bad luck yours will be
Until of flies you've swatted fifty-three.

Superstitious people probably don't kill spiders because it has been unlucky since a spider spun a web over baby Jesus to hide him from Herod.
A spider with syrup cures fever.

Seeing a spider run down a web in the afternoon means you'll take a trip.

A spider is a repellent against plague when worn around the neck in a walnut shell.

Seen running over clothes - a new set of clothes

Finding a spider in the morning - Sorrow

Finding a spider at midday - Anxiety

A spider in the afternoon is a sign of a gift; But a spider in the evening will all hopes uplift.

If you find a money spider and don't kill it you'll gain loads of money.

Finding a Spider on the Wedding Dress is a Omen of Good luck!

If a spider drops down in front of you from the ceiling and dangles, do not kill it. If the spider hangs and then goes back up to the ceiling, you are due for a run of good luck. If, however, the spider dangles and then drops, it foretells the sudden loss of a loved one or some other personally catastrophic event.

I had a really big ugly spider (not one of these garden spiders - much uglier) make a HUGE between electrical lines right by the house. The web was about 4 ft across. Beautiful. Went out to get a pic this morning, for ya'll's enjoyment, and just the very middle of the web was torn and the rest of the web still intact. It had been plucked out and eaten by a bat last night! I've seen them do it.
