If they're black sexlink, they're definitely males due to the coloring, right? Because of genetics? But is there anything else about the small one that says male? I'll go get a better picture. I meant to get 2 females!

If they are a sexlink, they are both males, correct.

The last two photos are a cockerel. They look to be hatchery barred rocks.

Do they have a solid structure (coop) to go into for sleeping and inclement weather?

I believe Barred Plymouth Rock but others will know better than I. if so then they are good layers and fairly docile.

Yes. However, where you got them makes a difference. Just because Joe Schmoe says they're BSLs doesn't mean they are.
