Does anyone use the search function on this site?

I just don't like the idea of hijacking someone elses thread if perhaps their post is close to what I might ask just a lil different. You know like if I reopen an old post about using sand in a run but my question is about using sand in a chick brooder. Sand may be safe for the adult birds in question but may not be safe for brooder use due to its ability to hold and radiate heat. See where I am going with this?

ravencreek, when I am in a situation like that, I'll open a new post, and put in the narrative part "I searched on BYC and found out....." so that folks know you've searched, but you are asking for additional, yet related, info.

What do you mean by hyjacking a thread, I just did a search and couldnt find anything about hijacking, but I think the FBI just taped into my computer to find out what I am planning.

I search sometimes. It's easier just to post. So what if the q's are the same. You don't have to read or answer them. Keeps the boards lively. If you have only one thread per question it would be boring real fast. Besides most people like answering the repeated threads. Gives them something to do. It's only my opinion. Not worth much!

I do use the search feature, but often, the title of a thread doesn't seem to match what I asked for. I realize that search will tag a thread if the words I searched are contained therein, but if the thread is 50 pages long, it is often impossible to find the mention of what I was looking for. The site is really big, so for newbies like me, it is sometimes easier to just ask again. It is kind of frustrating to do the search, read through 12 threads, and then realize that, while you got some great info, the question you had wasn't really answered.

Well, if you used the search function you will see this subject has also been posted before and that question has all ready been answered!!!!!

Seriously though, I agree with those who say it is a little difficult to find things in search. Sometimes it works great but other times I can go through pages and pages and not find it. Sometimes it is easier to ask. Even if someone just wants to post a link, that helps. After all, isn't that why we are here?

Guys, you know you can change the search option from "show results as topics" to "show results as posts". It's the very last option on the line right above the 'submit' button on the search page.

That way you do not have to wade through 50 pages of a thread to find one buried reference. It is HIGHLY useful!!!

"Amish white bread" came up just fine searching that way, btw
