I live in Iowa, and would like to hatch my own chickens. I thought my kids would really love that. They (my kids) decided they wanted Plymouth barred rock, and Welsummer chickens. Does BYC have a database of hatcheries by state? I've heard that buying shipped eggs isn't really a good way to go, and doesn't have a very good hatch rate. Though, if I did buy shipped eggs, I'd want to buy from someone "close" by to reduce the amount of time in transit.
