Added to a dust bath area, it can help prevent mites and lice. But you do need to be careful with it. It can cause damage to respiratory systems, and can harm beneficial soil organisms.

I find it hard to phantom why folks are still touting the so called benefits of Diatamations Earth.

Like snake oils and most other homeopathic remedies DE only helps the bank account of the person or persons who either strip mine DE or sell it to the unwary.

It is true that there are glowing reports out there of DE curing everything from Acne, to the common cold but there is no evidence that it is true.

However there is one big truth and that truth is this, "If it sounds too good to be true then it ain't," true that is!

For instance. Chickens and other birds have been dusting their bodies with dirt since cavemen discovered the drumstick, yet only in the last few decades have people like DE miners discovered a way to get people to pay for what is basically dirt.

I want to see some double blind studies that pit plain old dirt against 100% DE as a mite remedy.

I tried DE in my nestboxes when I had my first ever mite infestation this past summer (southern hemisphere). A thick bed of it. The mites were crawling round quite happily in it, hundreds and hundreds of the horrid things. Different story when I painted them with neem oil.
