I know it's been said that they can. . but until I see it for myself I'm not going to believe it.
Sometimes a duck can present male characteristics, or a drake can lose their drake feather and look like a female. . there are anomalies that crop up sure. Just like sometimes a chicken hen can crow.
But I won't be convinced that a duck can actually turn into a drake unless it was proven a female, previously laid eggs. . and then suddenly stopped laying eggs and grew a penis.
My guess is you have a duck that looked like a girl but was actually a drake.
Or you have a hermaphrodite duck. That is plausible I suppose.![]()

And a hermaphrodite wouldn't lay a fertile egg.. Im not sure she'd lay at all.. most hermaphrodites of any species are sterile.. as far as I know.. tho anything's possible I guess..
