Really? I didn't know that!
Yeah, the QH can be traced back to the Goldolphin Barb or Arabian, which influenced the TB breed. I think another famous Arab is in there somewhere, but the traits of speed and agility come from the Arab breed. Inwas trying to find more info on the net but couldnt find anything that showed or explained it better.

Does my gelding appear to have Arabian in him? Lightning, 10 year old palomino.View attachment 1639661 View attachment 1639665 View attachment 1639667

So can the Thoroughbred, there were three.

The Byerley Turk
The Darley Arabian
The Godolphin Arabian
In this case Arabian Barb and Turk are references to desert bloodlines....

If you go through the history of the Quarter horse you will find Thoroughbred infusion through out the racing blood lines.... I don't know if the Bull dog Quarter exists any more but they were shorter stockier Quick on their feet.

The characteristis of arabs were that they were bred for performance heart and beauty. A stallion wasnt allowed to breed unless he passed a test.... 100 miles across the desert on camels milk and dates.... He had till he was six years old to complete this task.

Consequentially the Arab has one less vertibre in his back... More stamina... And they lived with the bedouins as family.... even in the tent... Willing to please...

But when they went to war they Rode mares... to battle...

Sorry if I have holes my research on the subject was done 40 years ago.

QH's are bred for "refinement" these days, so his head and ears don't look unusual to me, nor is his tail particularly high set (my QH mare flags her tail a lot higher than that when playing). The thing I'm looking at is his back, which does seem rather short - he is built a lot like a Quarab (Quarter Horse/Arabian cross) gelding that I used to know.

Could be a cross. I used to work at a hunter/jumper stable and they had this littel black quarter/arab pony. She was so cute. Little scoop face, flagged that tail when she jumped. She was so pretty.I wanted to buy her so bad but couldnt afford the price tag.
