Ok we have 16 -17 week old chickens. (Various breeds, leghorns, production reds, ee's, australorp, barred rock)

Here's the story... We've been on egg watch. We're excited to see our FIRST EGG! Today we had a "drop off or stray" chicken walk into our yard. She wandered in with our chickens and we put her in our run til we can find out who she belongs to. (We're talking to neighbors as we see them to find her home if she has one)

Then this afternoon my daughter comes in with "Hey mom Our 1st Egg!"

Is this coincidence or is it the stray's egg?

Does it qualify as our First Egg?

Of course it qualifies .. regardless!!

congrats!

If they laid it, then you shall count it.

I vote it's the stay's egg! BECAUSE my birds are older than yours and my rollaway nest box isn't finished yet so I don't want to hear more stories of someone elses's RIR hen laying before the 20th week. LOL

fl deb you make me laugh! I'm leaning towards the stray having laid it too...but my kids say, "It was laid in OUR run! It's OUR FIRST EGG!" LOL

So hope your chickens start laying soon!

Congrats!

Not to be a wet blanket but check out that hen well before putting her in your run and make sure she is healthy.

I know with all the excitement you may have forgot about that.

+1 - yuppers, I would put her in a dog crate or cage far away from your chooks...it would be awful if she has some lurking illness & infects your girls!

Awww, just grab her by the feet and dunk her in a bucket on Pine-sol for a couple of minutes,.. then hang her up to dry, and she'll be fine....
NO !!! DON'T DO THAT,....I WAS JUST KIDDING !!!

I'd agree on the quarrentine period, just to be safe.
And YES OF COARSE the egg qualifies ! your daughter is proud.
