Does my pullet have Marek's?

I am unfamiliar with using the hypericum so I can't say....perhaps let it clear her system and then try less???? Maybe someone who knows more will chime in here.

Maybe what I'm giving her does not have enough Vitamin B? What dosage of B did you give your rooster Welasharon? Did you dissolve it in water or crush into food? I am willing to switch to just Vitamin B if that is what she really needs.

I am definitely willing to keep giving her special care if she can get better even if it takes quite a bit more time, but if there isn't any chance of her recovering or being able to live a happy chicken life, then I don't want to let her suffer. Also, if it is just an injury or deficiency then I would like to put her cage into the coop so she won't be so lonely. Maybe being near the other chickens will lift her spirits and give her a boost to get better. But of course, if it is Marek's, I don't want to jeopardize the rest of the flock.

Any other ideas or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Has the vet tested the poop for worms or cocci? Mine 10 week old couldn't stand up/walk, and i was giving her extra vitamins, hypericum, turmeric etc, but i got the poop tested and she had cocci and roundworms! I treated individually, and it was just the cocci that was giving her the "semi paralysis".

If you bring in a sample they should be able to give you results within 24 hours and it should run you 25-30 dollars. Just a thought.

re the B, you can give her extra of that. It's water soluble so you can't overdose her.

is she eating ok otherwise?

She is eating and drinking fine and her poop looks completely normal (I compared it to the poop page that everyone always links to). I am not sure if she was vaccinated, I will find out though.

I will go to the pharmacy and get the Vitamin B Complex tonight. Just dissolve it in her water? How many pills to how much water?

you will not see if the poop has cocci or worms unless she is so far in them that she has blood or actual worms in it - that's why testing is important. The one from my chick looked totally fine too. I highly recommend testing, any vet can do it for you. If she has something like cocci or worms, you can give her all the vitamins and herbs you want but it will not cure her, and you'll just end up spending more buying medicines she may not need, and maybe lose her.

re B, i wanted to make sure mine ate it, so i crushed it, and mixed it with yogurt or canned cat food that i would then feed her. Sometimes adding "smelly" vitamins to the water discourages drinking, and you definitely don't want that to complicate the matter further by having her dehydrated!

I just spoke with the breeder I got her from, she was not vaccinated. She did say however that the Lavender Orpingtons are very fragile and get hurt and sick easily. I will take a poop sample to the vet and see what they say. Thanks for that info. I will get the Vitamin B tonight and give it to her.

Thanks!

THat would be a good way to feed the B. I had put a drop of the vitamins in the beak and crushed the B tablet up and put it in the crumbles.

As far as I'm concerned, Hypericum is a myth. About the only thing that I noticed while using it is it seems to give some relief if there is pain involved. It did nothing to elliviate any symptoms any of my chickens were showing.

This is the vitamin protocol that I was given by my poultry vet.

.5 mls poly vi sol, without iron, daily
400 ius of vitamin E twice daily
