Does the Post Office Always Call?

My box from Welp had printed on it to hold and call. I called the post office anyway on the day they shipped out and alerted them that they would arrive; they are used to this as I live in a rural area. On the day they arrived I received a call at 5:30 AM. They put them inside in a warm area until I retrieved them.

I think stopping by would be a good idea. I am expecting an Ideal order early April, and asked about what time the mail arrives at the PO last time I was in getting the mail (we have a PO box). They were going to wait until a "decent hour" to call me, I said no, call right at 6am if that is when the arrive! I plan to stop by the day before they arrive to give them a paper with my name, the statement that I am expecting chicks, and my correct phone number just in case.

We ended up calling our PO at 7am when we hadn't gotten a call yet. I think they were waiting until 8am when they "opened". Next time I am going to call them ahead of time and tell them to call us ASAP. It was torture waiting that morning. HA!

I made up a couple of flyers printed on SCREAMING neon yellow paper. In as large a type as I could fit, I put that live birds were going to be delivered on X date, my name, address, and three different contact numbers (home, work, cell).

I took the flyers to each post office (main distribution center, large town office, small town office) where the chicks might reasonably end up in the delivery chain, and specifically asked them to call me as soon as the chicks showed up.

Worked like a charm... we got a call 6:30 that Sunday night that the chicks were at the distribution center, and we picked them right up.

I definitely recommend an in-person visit to your post office if you're in a larger area, and a pre-printed paper with all the info they could ever need to contact you... it really helps!
