Does the rainbow gene breed true in platy fish?

I'm wondering if the rainbow color in platies can breed true. I always assumed they were a cross of red and blue, if that were the case, wouldn't they throw solid blue and solid red offspring when breeding Rainbow x Rainbow?

I tried to find an article to answer this, but none. I did learn platys can produce up to 80 fry per live birth and reproduce on average every 30 days. Dang, that's a lot of fish!

Maybe you should just try it and write an article about it.
