Hello,
Noticed that our 9mo old Snow, a Silkie, looks like she slightly limps and had really dirty, poop/ dirt crusted feet. Usual for her. Upon closer inspection, it looked like the bottoms of her feet were swollen.

we brought her inside and washed off her feet, then soaked them a bit in Epsom salt water. Below, are pics of what we saw. Can someone please advise- does this look like the scab of bumblefoot?

Our chickens would not survive free ranging b/c of too many birds of prey/fox, so they spend their days in large runs that we move weekly around our lawn.

Last week, I heard a loud ruckus, and upon investigating, there was a raccoon stalling their run. The ladies were running and flying amok so I wonder if Snow hurt her foot then? TIA for all your help.

Meant to say ”Unusual for her.” All the hens keep their feet pretty clean.

Sorry but is there a way for you to circle the area you're concerned about? I don't see any scab or anything that resembles bumblefoot. My chickens have a little bit of cushion at the base of their foot as well, but I could very well be missing something.

Is that the part you're referring to? Because that's the part that I feel like is normal to be cushiony and again I see no scab

Hi Docteurmccoy, thanks for replying. The main scab, I think, is the yellow thing circled, that I couldn’t pick off. There’s also a constellation of other little spots surrounding the main yellow one that are also stuck on. Her foot pad looked fuller and more swollen compared to our other 3 hens (flipped all over to check).

It does not look like bumblefoot to me. It may be an injury/scrape that could become bumblefoot. If they were sent into panic by a raccoon then she may have tweaked/sprained it during that. It doesn't look terribly swollen to me, but different birds can look different. I would soak that foot, remove the scab, if that's what it is, clean it off well, make sure there is not any gunk under it. Then apply some plain neosporin or plain triple antibiotic ointment and wrap the foot to keep it clean. I would change it daily and reapply the ointment until it's healing up well. Keep it wrapped until it's healed completely. Don't wrap too tight, vet wrap or co wrap stays on well, you can get co wrap at tractor supply in the horse section, cut it in strips the size you need. If it's just caked and dried dirt and droppings, then once it's softened and cleaned off you will know. Those can be very hard sometimes.

Thanks, Coach! We soaked it last night as described above, and then set her in the roost. This morning her feet bottoms looked less puffy, or seemed so.
Our plan was to take Snow out of the roost before shutting them in for the night, but as soon as they heard us coming, they all came back out, apparently looking for treats.
so we snagged Snow and brought her in for some footcare, washed her feet in a soap bath until clean, then soaked in Epsom salt bath for 5 min. Upon inspection then, the feet appeared less puffy than last night and the yellow spot looked much smaller. Wasn’t clear if the spot was a scab, so we decided to leave it for the night, then set her back in the roost with the others.

Sorry, I didn’t see your reply until just now, but I did get today PRID, wrap, and plain neosporin. We will check again tomorrow morning. As long as it doesn’t look worse, then we’ll plan to do the foot treatment at night, b/c I’m afraid if the other girls see her returning to the run with something odd, they’ll pick at it.
At night, we’ll pick off the yellow thing, and dress her foot with Neosporin and wrap. I like the idea of her going to bed with clean feet. Come to think of it, all creatures should. Thank you again.
