Does this make me cold hearted and evil?

Yote..
I have to say..
you did piss me off when you said that you cant believe the posts when a wife comes on here saying how her husband is crying over a dead chicken..etc.
Why cant you believe it?
When my %%^&*(#$ dog killed our favorite duck Plucky... it killed us.. we BOTH were crying. it really hit us hard... it STILL bothers us today..we STILL miss her..
I guess if you've never felt love for something like that..i guess you just cant understand... you just dont get it..
That kinda makes me feel sad for you though.. not mad at you.

There are a lot of sensitive folks on here. While I'm not one of them, that's the greatest thing about BYC....we're a very versatile bunch of chicken keepers. I just shy away from posts I feel are too out there for me. I think we can all learn from each other though. Sometimes I wish I had a more sensitive nature for the sake of my kiddo. It's hard enough to understand teenagers as is, but add polar opposite into the mix and it makes for a rough go! A lot of those type posts are from kids though I've noticed.

Let me stress again that due to the restrictions in most cities-there are VERY few "city slickers" on this site. Most of us live in rural areas and from what I've seen, are pretty practical.
Some people keep snakes as pets which to me is a revolting practice-HOWEVER, that is a PERSONAL choice-not MINE, THEIRS. So if I am a bleeding heart for trying to save viable animals that I DO consider to be pets and livestock(mostly pets), then so be it!
Someone very eloquently said somewhere on this site the other day(wish I knew who it was so I could give them credit)-"I chose them, they didn't choose me"-it is my responsibility to care for them to the best of my ability.

Chickens Are livestock yes, But who gets to say all chickens are? Because there domesticated? Like Dogs and cats? My Point is, alot of us view our birds as pets. The very Slogan of BYC is My Pet Chicken Makes Me Breakfast! and It probably got to be that way because so many of us really like our animals. When My Favorite chicken died, i was so sad! Sometimes emotions do come in to play with chickens, especially if they are not intended for meat purposes. So I think its fine You don't feel that way (though i find it hard to believe you didn't find any sympathy when your duck swallowed a nail) But you shouldn't make other's feel bad because they actually want to Help there animals.
I would stay away from the those posts like that and not tell too many people that

Bye the way the very Definitions Dont say anything about being heartless and cruel.

do·mes·ti·cate
to tame (an animal), esp. by generations of breeding, to live in close association with human beings as a pet or work animal and usually creating a dependency so that the animal loses its ability to live in the wild.
live·stock
the horses, cattle, sheep, and other useful animals kept or raised on a farm or ranch.
(It says Nothing about not being a pet, it can give eggs and still be a pet)

As for being heartless maybe, Evil, no your not, your probably with the majority of people in the world, the thing is, the majority of people are not on this forum.

I say all this respectfully

Okay, it's cool to put bodies in then, since it's your lease. I wondered it you were using one behind a business- that's a crackin' $200.00 fine minimum.

Cindi, ganging up is not really the idea here- what has happened it that someone started a thread that quickly became controversial because so many are offended by the tone of it. Not everyone disagrees with the OP. There were some favorable posts.

As long as threads like this remain polite and courteous discussions they are okay. I suspect the OP posted in a moment of frustration and had no idea so many people would jump in! I'm always on the fence with these issues, which is why my chickens and ducks are "working pets".

hehe...sorry bout your duckie anyway. The pets are hard to get over. My soft spot is for my dogs though...sadly none of my chickens get that status with me, just with DD and DH. I dunno why...I just see them as not having to go to the store for groceries.
