Does USPS xrays boxes....YES....proof in thread.

I guess people will just have to be more aware so when they purchase eggs they don't beat you up!

Depends on how bad they are shook up. If they are shook bad enough to cause bubbles, chances are it also broke the yolk. These wouldn't develop. Usually shipped eggs will have SOME development, even ones that are handle badly. But if you know your incubator is operating properly and you get no egg development, either you have infertile eggs or they got x-rayed.

I stopped writing on the outsides of my boxes this spring after quaillady's cochin eggs arrived with a footprint in the center of the box. It was not the first time this year that a package marked 'fragile eggs' received that kind of treatment.

UNFORTUNATELY BETWEEN THE PRICE OF LEAD FOIL, AND THE ADDED SHIPPING IT WOULD LIKELY BE CHEAPER TO HAND DELIVER
hmm.png

I don't know but my trips to AL are $500. I doubt packaging would cost that much and Lord have mercy some eggs are very expensive.

Amazingly I offered to transport chicks from PA to NY for folks here for FREE since I was picking up chicks for myself and only one person took me up on the offer. I have no doubt some in this state ordered eggs from the same person.

It might be better to send live chicks. But then I can't get anyone to go in with me on an order of six from Green Fire.

I think you can over night for $40.

I guess folks like the odds of eggs better.

Sorry, I didn't read everything in this thread, but the USPS quit using X-ray machines back in the late 1970's. That's ironically, or not, about the same time magnetic media was routinely shipped through the mail.
Now, if you send packages to sensitive areas, then the consignees receiving handlers may subject any package to any amount of scrutiny...equal to but not limited to X-Ray, Star Trek Tricoorder, or sonic screwdriver.
Eggs shipped regular USPS First Class/Priory mail will rarely...pretty much NEVER; get near an X-ray machine.

I put, "Do Not X-Ray" on my egg shipments, but that's just for show.

Always label hatching eggs as, "FRAGILE", "Live Hatching Eggs", "Live Embryos" or some parts of the same, because that triggers USPS protocols that should be implemented to ensure they get a bit above average treatment.

The more people between point A and point B, can screw things up, but a well packed shipment of properly labeled eggs should get to point B, rather safely.
Everyone's results may vary, but a pretty average result.

I've delivered live bees. Not to bad.

What I meant is: I believe post offices accept live bees/leeches silk worms and these are packaged and treated differently. (I dont know about the USA though).
Would it be plausible if you could call the postal help line and see if you could substitute the bees for eggs maybe?

I'm not sure how bees are processed. Everything else is scanned and due to the invention of machines sorted through any number of things. Nothing is "hand canceled" anymore. I always laugh when I see this written on a letter or package. It still goes through a machine, bar coded and moved on.

With the new changes, many production and sorting places have been consolidated. Watertown and Utica are now done in Syracuse, NY. Then shipped back to those areas for delivery. Express mail may be the fastest and the less handled of mail so this is why I suggested using express mail and paying the premium. Perhaps the closer you are to military installations, and state capitals, the more likely it is to be xrayed.

Perhaps enough letters written to the post master can help. If it's not important enough to write to him about then its' not important.

I carried eggs through the Birmingham Airport and they were nice enough to check each of two dozen eggs. The hatch was good but only about 75%. I carried them in my carry on luggage and kept them under the seat to avoid the trauma. I can't be sure about all airports and I suggest getting there extra early so they don't have a lot of people.

I have been considering doing something of a delivery service on the I-95 corridor but folks lying about being somewhere at a certain time would screw it up LOL I have made a few deliveries on one of my bikes that I kina padded out the saddlebags on a coupla times now folks have had 90-100% hatches, when I started crossing state lines I kina considered the lacy act but a good number of folks around me here live on the state line most of us have NC address's for the hatcheries that will not ship to Va. so I am in good company LOL

What about MC trailers? They have alot more space than saddle bags and pull really smoothly from what my dad says. And I think a network of harleys would be a little more fuel efficiant than learjets.

here in Va a trailer is another set of license plates and more insurance and a separate safety inspection padded saddlebags are along the K.I.S.S. principle I have a trunk for the bike I have not got around to building the spring/suspension and all for it yet my saddlebags are mounted on closed cell foam like is used for kayak seats that and light springs have been added internally on the bags
