The problem is: People's varying definitions of absurd. what you think is so 'off the wall' absurd that it amuses you might not be as extremely absurd to someone else. Also, some people live in such a serious world that they are simply not expecting anything to be funny. And then there's the one that gets me sometimes......I'm just too 'hip' for the room (a phrase used by stand-up comics to say that their jokes just overshot the intelligence or experience of their audiences).
I was once at a Tea where all the ladies were in their 60-80's ( I was in my 40's at the time). In the course of conversation I said, "My husband and I are debating on whether to get a dog or have a child. We can't decide whether to ruin our carpet or ruin our lives". I spent the longest, quietest 15 seconds of my life. I doubt I'll be invited back.
Comedy is a risky thing. You have to be willing to fail occasionally or you won't have the guts to see the world through 'hee-haw' glasses and be the bright, funny character that your friends will love.
Thats classified information. The number of spankings I have received due to my sense of humor is highly sensitive information, of which only the moderators are privied to.
Hi! Not usually. Unless I'm 99.9% sure someone will 'get it', I keep it to myself.
Mostly, what I think is funny is so subtle that it goes *swoosh* right by most people. Nothing to be gained by sharing it --- except strange looks.
