Dog Attack! Help!!! *PICS* Great news!!!!

Thanks for the update Bec - so far, so good! Hopefully once the aspirin kicks in she will feel a little better. My roo has recovered from godawful dog attacks (people letting their dogs run free - grrrrr...) and he had looked like he77. If they can feel safe and cared for and warm and peaceful and have pain relief, amazing healing can take place.

Ok! We have signs of improvement!! She ate some watermelon and drank some more water. She would only eat little pieces out of my hand. At first she would open her beak just big enough to slide a piece in the end, she would slurp that down and then she started reaching for it in my hand. I gave her a warm bath and have her wrapped up in a warm towel. I am going to let her dry off and let the wound dry a little, then I will apply the neo again and wrap her backup. She wasn't too fond of the bath idea...she was trying to jump out. Now that really surprised me because of the condition she is in!

She is sitting quietly now all wrapped up and warm....

Well that is an improvement!

Go chickey go chickey! The fact that she wanted to JUMP out of the water tells us that she is still very much alive and wanting to live and get out of the places she does not want to be in. That is good!

That is great that she is reaching for your hand to get food out of it. She still has energy then. Keep up the good nursing and keep us updated!

I don't know if this is what you've done already or not, but here you go.
Clear all the feathers away from the area- just trim them out if you can to keep them out of the raw skin.
Boil 1 tsp of salt in a quart of water and let cool down to a comfy temperature. Flush/rinse the wounds twice a day with the salt water.
Apply an antibiotic creme to the area.
Antibiotice in the water if she'll drink it, otherwise you may have to get some from the vet. Dog bites are nasty things, and get infected easily. Good luck- I just got my boy back outside from his attack. It was really ugly. I could see down into his chest cavity. Now he's outside crowing up a storm

Well as for the clearing the feathers...unfortunately the dog handled that already. I will make up some rinse and rinse her this afternoon..won't the salt sting bad??

I am glad your boy made it!! Sounds like it was pretty bad!! "BooBoo" has some deep punctures but no slices. i will give the rinse a try this after noon!!!

Update for the evening..so far. She is standing now, everything looks nice and dry, so oozing or anything. I will give her another rinse later this evening...but s far so good!!

Thanks for all the support!!
