Dog attack! need help!

one of my small brahama muts just got attacked by a dog and has two small puncture wounds on its side, most of the feathers that were on his side have been pulled out, and he doesn't want to stand up. what do I do? when I can get him to stand he leans to one side and totters like a drunk sailor, he also keeps falling asleep. what should I do? I have already put some antibiotics on the puncture wounds but is there anything else that I can do?

I am so sorry this has happened. There have been a few chickens that have been attacked by dogs on here and have made it through. First, put him in a warm, quiet environment. Provide water with electrolytes and maybe some scrambled eggs. As you have put antibiotics on the wound there isn't much else that I know of. It will take some time for him to recover but he can with some TLC. If he eats and drinks then it is a positive sign. Others who have more experience with this situation hopefully will chime in but this can get you started in the right direction. Good Luck and wish him well!

He is probably in shock. Do.as HH has advised. Keep him calm and quiet..away from others in a darkctrier..box..etc. With food and water near by. If no organs are punctured and he makes it out of shock..then he should be ok

I picked him up today because he got out of the yard again and his ribs crunched

no wonder he hasn't wanted to move! when I touched his sides and put light pressure he stopped breathing and his eyes got really wide, so it definently hurts.

I feel so bad for the poor thing! as best as I can tell on both sides his ribs are shattered into pieces. I was wondering why his skin looked purple underneath, could that be why? should I put him out of his misery?

If you think he is constant pain with no ability to improve, then yes. If he got out, it makes me think he is active....is he eating and drinking? If you think the pain is from moving him, I would def put him in a carrier or box with food and water and let his wounds heal. Broke ribs are painful but can heal...but only you can tell how bad he is.

he does move around but slowly and carefully, his feathers are always poofed out and he keeps his wings away from his sides. Yesterday he was still very slow moving and not going anywhere much he usually stands in one place now, he doesn't eat much and if he gets pushed over on the ground he stays laying there until something comes to get him up.
