Dog attack! Please help!!

Ok thanks! I have another question, sorry im such a deer in headlights when it comes to chicken illness/injuries and have never dealt with something like this....

Her crop was quite full this morning, especially considering how little she has eaten. Any reason to worry or should I change anything I am doing?

So long as it is only full after she has eaten. When you feel it first thing in the morning , it should be empty.

That's not a good thing. The symptoms of ' impacted or sour crop ' are constant shifting of the neck, and after the food has been sitting awhile , a sour smell on the breath. It might also be as a result of her not being hydrated enough.

I'd try giving her some watermelon…most chickens love it and it would help with keeping her hydrated. I feel for you…my hens were attacked a few months ago by a fox or a coyote. One unscathed, one injured and another carried off presumed dead. It took about 3 weeks for the injured hen to recover and even now her feathers on her neck never quite grew back. This prompted me to build a new more secure coop and run which I'm still working on.

Her crop was still full this morning. I got her to drink a little on her own last night. I thought it was a good amount until i searched how much chickens should drink a day. I am shocked how much your guys chickens drink! I have 3 and their gallon goes down just an inch or so every few days.

She gulped down maybe 8 drinks and I finally got her to eat some more. Maybe 2 strawberries worth so thats a little more water? But it wasnt enough to help empty her crop :( I took a risk this morning syringe feeding her maybe 5CC of water. I know its risky but I am starting to worry and I knew it was my only chance to get some in her before I get home from work 8 hours later. Its dark where she is so she wont be able to find water on her own.

She seemed a little more perky last night which is good though! Any ideas for getting that crop to empty so she can get some food through her? So not much for droppings. Just small, white/green, and super smelly.

She will become increasingly thirsty as it is her way of trying to shift the blockage. You may need to make another trip to the vet.

Ah man, I am not sure I can afford to bring her back. Already spent 250 on this little gal.

Still cant get her to eat or drink much. Just a very small amount of watermelon and greek yogurt tonight. I did syringe feed her some water which is risky, I know, but I am becoming a little desperate now. These antibiotics arent getting into her system like they should if its just sitting in her crop along with all the other stuff.

Nothing feels that large in her crop and its not squishy either. Just a small amount of food (which is prolly everything shes eaten) that has never emptied. Besides trying to get her to eat watermelon and yogurt, I am pretty stuck now. I massaged it for about 10 minutes after work and another 10 just now. Idk how long, how often, or what motions to do but anything is better than nothing I guess.

Oh and she ripped out most of her staples on one side so thats open again. I hope she didnt swallow them.

This is so exhausting and heartbreaking.

I wouldn't give her watermelon , it's a great treat for a healthy bird , but not in this case. Has she pooped?
