Dog Attack :(

He's drinking water, but he wouldn't eat the egg/crumble mixture. I got some smaller syringes from the vet today... so he has had 2 penicillin doses. He got up today & walked around.

We'll just have to watch him and see.

Good to hear that he's up and walking. Hopefully he starts eating by tomorrow. You can always mix a little honey into his water to help keep his energy up. When I had a hen wounded in a bobcat attack, I had to really work to get her to start eating again.

I’m so sorry that you rooster was injured and is struggling now. If you can keep it from getting infected, it may be able to granulate in, even though it is a large wound. I myself wouldn’t try to debride any dead skin at this point but you may need to gently loosen dead tissue from the wound itself if you see loose material when you flush. Did I see that you are flushing with warm saline or dilute chlorhexadine? Keeping it clean and covered seems like a good plan. Praying for health!

No appetite is concerning, which might be due to an internal injury. I would keep trying to tempt him with quality foods. Chopped liver, tuna or salmon, ground meat are good. I like to use egg and watery chicken feed as the primary food, but I even use Friskees pate canned cat food in small amounts to get a sick chicken to eat.

I just saw this old thread yesterday, and thought it might be helpful to someone treating a bad wound to see how well they can heal:
