Let me tag some Educators. Odor may indicate the need for antibiotics, and that's beyond the realm of my knowledge.

A wound that smells bad needs to be cleaned really well.

I would use Chlorhexidine or Povidone Iodine to clean the wound, apply triple antibiotic to the wound.

Okay, good news/bad news. I took her outside to have better lighting for the pics and I found the problem area. (Pic to follow but typing on my computer and pics from phone). The dark area on top..originally look like a piece of fat/tissue, but now has shrunk and hardened so I am able to move it. I was treating topically and when I moved it for the pics, it looks like her skin pulled back and she has a whole pocket under there that I didn't see. So, I will certainly use any advice you give, but I am assuming I need to pull that back, irrigate it with sterile saline and then apply iodine followed by Neosporin. I'm not sure how well I am going to be able to get in there but I'll have to do my best...any other suggestions appreciated.

Looks like it may have been a layer of skin covering up the pocket, that may eventually dry on up and fall of in time.

I think I got it cleaned out well. Got some big Qtips to get the iodine on there but it didn't seem like it was working very well, so I dripped did a pour method Got lots of triple antibiotic ointment on there. So fingers crossed for good results.

How long typically for the Blu-Kote? Can I still clean the pocket after that's on? If the topical part that the other chickens can see is covered, is that when we're good?

I guess another question I have is HOW this is going to heal? I know no one can tell me for sure, but are they going to regrow feathers here? Or are they typically permanentely bald?

This morning we have about a 75% reduction in the smell so I think we're on the right track!
