I live outside a small town in Indiana that's 25 miles from the county seat. If I called the county animal control about a dog in my yard they would ask if it's chasing my animals or is dangerous. If I say it is then the first thing they would ask is if I could take care of it (shoot it). If I can't then (sometime very much later) they might send a sheriffs deputy out to take care of it (probably shoot it). So, I keep my rifle in the garage with the bullet clip on a shelf next to the rifle case. I can have the rifle out of the case and the clip in the gun in less than a minute. If my neighbor's dog gets into my chickens, or chases my steers, the dog would just sort of "disappear".
