Dog attacked by geese............

Quote:
When I go to pick out a puppy I always try to pick out those that are not chasing things... like balls or animals etc.... Those puppies seem to have more prey drive. I did the same thing when mine had a litter, I picked out the puppies that did not chase after the young geese etc. From the time they were born I introduced all the puppies to the birds, but even then some just aren't cut out to be good with birds. Pick those that like to play but not chase. I have better luck with boy puppies and birds, then the females for some reason...... but that is mainly a problem with more wild type birds like peafowl and exotic ducks. My males have never been a problem with those. Also I don't let the puppies I choose "play" with the animals .. like jumping on them or taking feathers. As they are older my dogs play with them, but I don't allow it as puppies, as I do not want them to mix play and biting with the livestock.
