I have a 2 month old pekin that my dog just bit. Only one tooth got her thank goodness but it looks like it went thru the top bill at an angle. She had blood coming from inside of mouth and top of bill. I cleaned it got it to stop bleeding and put ointment. I know before with other injured ducks I've put mega vitamin B complex liquid in their water and they healed pretty fast. Im worried about this one though. Is there anything else I can do? Its not that big but deep.

Yes I washed it with saline. It probably doesn't look too bad but with it being a dog bite I'm worried about infection.

poor ducky!

Yes, you are right to worry about infection. I would keep putting antibiotic ointment on it and reapply during the day. Don't let her dabble in muddy water (I know how much they love to).

Watch it for signs of redness spreading out, or being swollen. If you can get some, I'd give her antibiotics as well, but if you can't then do the above. Bills heal pretty quickly if infection doesn't take hold.

I have her in a pet play pen in the house now, I have access to human antibiotics. What antibiotic is best? My vet won't see her but I can call and tell them what I need and they will give it to me.

I have read of a few but if you search the forum for antibiotic dosage there are some posts with that info.

I agree, pack it with an antibacterial ointment, and since ducks like dirty up their bills consider applying a water-gel bandage over top to prevent debris from entering the area.

It's hard to determine the severity of the wound, but I don't she will need an antibiotic. If you think she needs one, just state what kind of antibiotics you have, and we can help.
