Dog eating poo

He eats the chicken poo but rolls in the deer droppings. Go figure
I never thought of it like that. My dog used to go crazy for grower feed then when we switched to layer she stopped. She doesn't eat the poop she rolls in it!!!! :sick:thAND SHE IS WHITE!!! Btw I'm 13 but I'm the "Chicken Whisperer" according to family and friends. :yesss:

I've had dogs who never got sick eating chicken poo but my dogs were young and healthy. And my chickens were healthy. Now....in the veterinary practice I've seen several dogs who became ill after eating chicken poo. Certain breeds of dogs are prone to liver/pancreatic issues, and the least little thing will put them over the edge and in a full crisis. I've seen a King Charles Spaniel nearly die after eating chicken poo while visiting a petting zoo. I also remember a Pom becoming very ill after ingesting chicken poo while visiting a local goat farm which had chickens. So, common sense dictates if you have a puppy, geriatric dog or a very expensive inbred toy breed with no immune system do not let them eat poo!

Update. The morning after he did throw up a few times but was OK after. He's a very healthy 80 pound 8 month old pit bull that's a very picky eater. He only eats the finest high protein puppy food.

One of my dogs loves chicken poo and licks my mucking boots when I'm not looking, if I don't get them cleaned off before coming in. It's never made him sick but I just don't want him licking my face after that. Just another reason I keep my dogs and chickens separated!

Separating is the only way to keep their mouth off the dung :drool they just. Can't. Stop!!!:duc
They are separated. We have 4 acres and will sometimes let the girls out to free range a bit like 1 hour while the dog is in the house. Then we let him out and he immediately knows where they've been .

Umm... no matter how far you separate dogs from chickens or other animals... they all still lick their own (for lack of better words) exit hole. :sick

I'm sorry, I don't care what my dog's eating... they are NOT gonna lick my face! We do "air smoochies" ;)

The one time that one of my dogs threw up goat berries, I saw beans in there. Meaning my "nice" neighbor probably put them over the fence for my goats to eat.

And yes, this is a lovely discussion! One of the best dinner table topics. :pop:lau
