thank you brindlebitch. So true!! They are (were) our children, that empty space left behind is so painful! My husband had rescued this dog 10 yrs ago after divorcing his wife of 17 yrs., they had no children in their marriage, so this was his baby girl, she helped him build a new bridge into the life we now share. Somehow, I feel as if I had let them both down.

I hate to hear of the whole thing because it will inevitably stir some people up in their predjudice against pits. But since you mention that none of them were spayed/neutered, I think that had a lot to do with it in the first place and you're lucky that something worse didn't happen. That many big dogs with raging hormones is a volatile situation to begin with. Now that they are fixed, you can really make some progress with your pack. Good luck to you.

You are so right, it is inevitable what other will conclude too, but as the saying goes, "Your dogs are only as good and/or as bad as the owner makes them out to be". This incident, in no way changes my outlook on the breed, but one definitely needs to be aware of the breed and what gets them ticking. I admit, after 5 yrs and lots of reading and learning of the breed, I still dont know everything, but I have given them the best that I have with all that I know. As I was informed by my MIL who witnessed the whole event, the pitbull who has always tolerated the JRT, did not aggressively go up to the JRT and was eating out of the JRT bowl rather peacefully, but what did set the pit bull in motion is when the JRT did one of her little dashing snips at the pitbull, she "reacted". Thank you for your condolences, all these hugs and support is really given me comfort in this situation.
