Dog food questions

From the time Spook was a puppy, I've read dog food labels. She has a "sensitive stomach" Always, has. I've tried feeding raw. It just gives her runny stools after a few days. I will not buy grocery or dept store food. Just think of all those foods that have been listed that were on that recall list a few years back. I believe only those that are "human grade" were not.

Since the reoccuring issues of pancreititis (sp?) we have had to switch foods again. This time from Nurto Ultra Senior to Solid Gold Holistique Blendz Adult Dog (fish)

The quality of food also determines how much a dog eats each day. I don't know all the scientific mumbo jumbo. I do know that Spook eats only a cup a day of this. Anymore gets left in the bowl. She is 11 years old and other than some arthritis from years of frisbee and back-flips and stomach thing. (the stomach thing has cleared up a bit since the Solid Gold) She is healthy. Bright eyes, shiny, coat. Happy.

Ok here we go with gross!

I've always been told that if your dog's feces is small and firm, that they are digesting their food properly and getting the nutrition they need.

If it is large piles, not firm and smells really bad, they are not getting what they need.

Just my 2cents

If your dog had runny poo he/she was probably not getting enough raw bones, or, the meat you gave disagreed some. I've been rawfeeding my 3 dogs for 2 years and i found if I switch from chicken to pork they can get runny stool for a little while, but the biggest factor is the bones because the calcium provides a lot of structure to the feces.
