Dog Frontline for Cats?

Actually, Frontline is not sold by vets anymore because there were too many diversion issues. Its available a feed stores, Costco, Petsmart, online etc.

And as amity3520 points out, the bill for a sick cat will be a lot more than a box of cat frontline.

The vet down the road from me has it. Someone bought a pack last time I was in there. (I wanted to tell them to go to Petco and spend 25% less...)

Most vets in my area sell it, I know one advantage to getting it at a vet is that you can buy it individually, or get the discounts/promotions that Frontline may happen to be doing, but it is generally more expensive from a vet, though not by much.

I bought large breed dog frontline plus for $16 on line ebay and free shipping can't beat that. I checked and matched everything new unsealed containers with a valid experation on the tube back itself. I treated 5 dogs and two cats with 2 of those for $32 and still have enough to treat a few of the smaller dogs again.

Here I will give those interested in their website the website address.

Its even cheaper through their actual website.

I buy the big dog size from my local low cost spay/neuter clinic for $50.00 for 3 of the green tubes that I put in a prescription vial they provide along with a syringe and printout of how much to use for both cats and dogs.

Each of the tubes has an expiration date on them.

When I got my little rescue red heeler/shihtzu mix at age 6 wks that was infested with fleas, the vets told me the only safe flea treatment for puppies was frontline. One treatment and the fleas were gone.

I use the frontline on 3 dogs and 3 cats. I've had to use it twice this summer so far due to the fleas are bad this year.

Last year I only used it once. I only use it when I see fleas.

I guess I stirred the pot inadvertently. Thanks for the responses. I do appreciate the advice.

I'm not cheap, and I care very much for my animals. I've just been ripped off by my vet repeatedly, and I know full well they are in cahoots with the pharmaceutical/insecticide companies, and I'd rather not give them another penny of my money.

I took in the feral kitty to be a mouser, which she does very well. Even with the "free" spay certificate I bought from the shelter I paid several hundred dollars in "necessary" test and treatments. Had I known how much I would be taken advantage of, I would have had the cat put down. I was trying to do the right thing and help out, and I got taken advantage of.

No wonder I can't afford health insurance for myself...

I can certainly understand your frustration at feeling taken advantage of by that vet, but I'm glad you didn't put the cat down. My suggestion would be to find another vet. Pronto. There are some WONDERFUL vets out there who are not just out to make a buck. I am blessed to have vets who will work with me if I have animals with issues that need to be addressed and the $$$ is not available at that time. I know that many vets can't or won't do that in today's economy, but mine do. I appreciate it greatly, too. They are honest and up front with me about the best treatment options in emergencies, and they don't adhere to the "the best treatment is the one that makes the most money for me" school of thought, either. My vets do not require full batteries of tests and expensive procedures on a routine basis, (although some around this area do so). You definitely need to find a new vet.
