Dog is coughing- any suggestions?

I just watched a bunch of videos and I would say it's definitely not reverse sneezing. The kennel cough videos seem close but way more severe than anything that my dog is experiencing.

I'm sure the vet will, but make sure he checks out her heart. She's pretty young for this to be the cause I would think, but older dogs will develop a cough because of congestive heart failure.

My first concern would be heartworms....They cause a dog to cough.

Buster did you have your pup on heartworm treatment? If not you need to have your dog tested for heartworms. The cough will come and go. The test is relatively inexpensive but the treatment can become pricey. Good Luck

my yorkie does that, I just beat(nor really) him on the back like I do a person and he does fine, but he runs outside and sticks his nose in everything so I think most of his is allergy's, esp since his eyes run some to. Last trip to vet he was doing it and vet made no commet about it, but since J.R, has seen the vet as the time he was coughing and my vet wan't concerned, doesn't mean that you have the same thing. Take him for you own peace of mind, if its a problem better to catch it now marrie

OK, I just got off the phone with my vet. He said that there aren't many cases of heart worms in this part of the country. He said it would be a bigger concern if I lived farther south. He said kennel cough is more of a gagging cough and that this sounds more like allergies. He told me if she's feeling good and eating and drinking good (which she is) then just to keep an eye on her and she's probably OK. Allergies would make sense because it did rain here for the first time in a while yesterday and the temps were up above freezing for the first time in a long time.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. It helped me direct all my concerns as I talked to the vet.

When my dog started coughing and sneezing I started him on some vit. C and Echinacea supplement in his dog food mixed with yogurt to boost his immunities just in case it was kennel cough.

Since kennel cough is a virus passed through the air like the common cold it has to run it's course but a good immunity booster doesn't hurt.

Hopefully it's just allergies, hope he/she feels better soon.

Heart worm usually isn't a very big concern in the colder areas of the US. If fact, it's non existent in Alaska!

Allergies does sound more feasible especially if it rained yesterday. My dog has terrible allergies. If they get bad enough, the vet might prescribe Benedryl for your dog.
